* Thoughts on Social Media

Today I thought about deleting my facebook account.

and my twitter account.

and my My Space.

and any other social media context I am connected too.

Do you want to know why?

Well, here goes. After reading many a blog entry regarding digital detoxing, creative business and saying good bye to social media, I felt the urge / pull towards deleting all of these media outlets.

Since I joined "most" of the social medias on the internet, my personal, social and business life have basically gone down the toilet. That's not to say that I don't enjoy being online and "connecting" with all the beautiful peoples I've met. I do.

What I am saying is that every other aspect of life that I once enjoyed, has gone wayward. If I am not texting someone, I am facebooking them. If I am not twittering random "stuff" I am lost in updating myspace and other media. What happened to being about ringing someone and just chatting over the phone. Or meeting them for coffee or something? I mean, right now, what am I doing / logged into? I am writing this post, while replying to a text, thinking about a status update (for the business) all this and people wonder why we can't slow down and just take a moment.

For the most part I've been ok with all of my online activities. But in saying that, my head is always here, somewhere. There isn't a day that I am not logged into something, sometime. And I will be honest it's become all too natural thing I do with my daily routine. Which isn't what I wanted at all. Life shouldn't be lived out online 24 hours, 7 days a week.

As much as I love being able to connect and "meet" people online, I think I prefer to do it face to face. I know that there are many advantages in having online connections, and using these to their full potenial business wise, but I sometimes feel that there is a lack "personal" connections with some people and how things are done. For example, people I've gone to school with, seeking me out and wanting to add me. I do the right thing and say yes, but there is never anything else after that. What's up with that? Or the people who prefer to say hi or "like" something you've said, but don't reply to texts or call any more. What's up with that?
and trust I've been guilty of doing the same thing.

I am also aware that these days online connections and social media are becoming the norm for businesses. I'm just not sure it's for me and my business. I guess for me its hard to find the right balance of what is meant for "Personal" friends and "business" friends and / or clients. But at the same time I feel that perhaps there is a need for this social media for business connections. Do you see where I am at? I guess I am leaning more towards getting rid of all these social media connections and sticking to what I know best.

This space and this blog.

I like it here.

I feel comfortable here and where I can be me and share all that is going on in my world. So if you'd like to join me here, please do. I mean what's the point of starting my lovely creative beautiful business, if I don't have time to do anything creative to share with you.

Which is why I think it is time.

Time to delete and creat more.

For now, though I am going to be taking a sabbatical from my "business" facebook, myspace and twitter accounts. So if you are one of my "friends" and would like to contact me, please feel free to call, text or e-mail me. I'll be happy to reply ;o)

and on that note, see you on the otherside with lots more updates and photo posts.

This has got to be one of my favourite photo shoots of 2010.

I received an e-mail from fellow photographer "Nicole" after posting a comment on her flickr account {Astrogirl529, if anyone is interested in checking our her work, I love it} about taking some photos of her "baby belly". 

After a couple of e-mails back and forth we arranged a time at Nicole's place on Monday in early July.

As "Nicole's" due date was this week, we organised for another shoot on Monday, here is a preview from that shoot;

Hi Folks!

Apologies right off the bat for the lack of posts here at the Toni M Photography blog. We've been "flying" around catching up on many gigs and photo shoots around Launceston, Tasmania for the past month or so. Many Sneak Peeks coming your way soon.

If you haven't notice already we've had a bit of a change here on our blog. One of the biggest changes we've had is the layout and adding new buttons. As you can see above is the HUGE list of Bands and Artists, Toni M Photography has shot over the past 2 years. Please check back regularly, as we constantly adding more to this list and hopefully the links to the band's / artist's web page.

Another big change is that we are almost at the point of going live with our website, fingers crossed this happens around the end of month, we'll keep you "posted" about the progress as it develops.

Toni M Photography is having a month of love and wants to share some around. We are now offering photo session specials during the remaining months of Winter; June, July, August and  because we love you all, September.

During the Winter Season we are offering Winter Mini Sessions, which are perfect if you are thinking ahead for Christmas or wanting to update those family photos you have yet to get around too ;o)

Winter Mini sessions are a nice way to get some really great portraits taken for an affordable price. A Winter Mini session costs $70 + a booking fee of $70.00 (due when booking your session) and will include the following:


* 20 - 30 minutes of my full attention in an outdoor location of your choosing.
Most likely a local park or play ground within Launceston area.
* Up to 4 people per session - $10 for each additional person.
* 2 Full resolution images on a CD with re-printing rights, up 11 x 14.
* 1 ~ 8 x 10 of your favourite image.
* Special Pricing for additional goodies and prints ;o)

Terms and Conditions of Winter Mini Special

* Booking Fee must be made when booking. Via Paypal or Direct Bank Depost.

* The lack of. . .

365 day photo challenge. I started. I missed a couple of days and now I've almost missed a week.

It's not to say that I've not been taking photographs. The complete opposite actually. It's been a week of gigs and photo shoots. And lots of editing. Lots of editing indeed.

Which brings me to today. Australia day. A day full of sun, love, friends, and lots and lots of food. A day to chill out and celebrate with friends and close ones all that is Australian. A day I took off to re-gather my thoughts and relax with friends. It totally helps to do that sometimes ;o)

and now I am back into the full swings of things. Though it's late I did want to post these sneak peeks and to give you all a head up on another giveaway. Do check back for more information.

That's the challenge.

To Take a photo.

*The Beginning of something new

and back. . . after having a lovely and relaxing break, we're ready to back into the swing of things.

A few news items;
*There are a few sneaks to catch up on from late 2009, we apologise for not getting to them before. They'll be up this week.

*This year is going to full of stories, specials and new photo gift ideas (more on those in the newsletter, which will hopfully be out this week)

*We've had our first photo session of the year, and it was a blast. Sneak peeks this week ;0)
